The PILLARS — Case Study

During the first walkthrough of this space two things became evident. The bones were there but the colors made the environment uncomfortable.

Colors matter. They affect your mood, feelings, and emotions. Used correctly they can be tools to communicate to the inhabitants. The Pillars is a 5000 sq ft Recovery Center. The environment needs to say you’re welcome, and you’re safe. We opted for a soft neutral tone to convey that message

This organization offers a holistic approach to drug and alcohol recovery.  We removed some of the colorful cubicles to create a Yoga room for the many free Yoga classes, dance classes and other offerings.  A floating hardwood floor with a cork underside provided the durability needed, but also softened the environment.

There are also teen services available. We decided to remove the remaining cubicles and create the “Safety Net” . It’s a safe space for teens to come during off- school hours. They needed to be separate but not unseen. In keeping with the current design we incorporated large glass windows.
